Letter #20 November 12, 1944 "Whadaya Say Kid?"

" Hello Franie "

"Whadaya say kid? Not much new has happened excepting a letter from the folks in Indiana. Johnny's stationed only a hundred miles from 'em. and gets to see 'em occasionally. He's playing on a football team there, the lucky hound."

"That's always a good way to let off the steam, another one is training for boxing as my plans are at present. They're gonna get up a team here so might just as well let off the excess."

"A couple of other guys and I went down to the USO the other nite to see what was what as it's a new one.
There wa s the usual ... ping pong etc., only three women were present. They all had cauliflower ears under their hair, betcha..."

'They had a good show on the other nite by the name of  "Up In Mabel's Room". This guy Dennis O'Keefe is another screwball."

"Got the guard again tonite..."

"Lessee , this page is a mile long when there's not much to scribble. Seems like you're getting farther away alla time, wise gal, ... So all's okay. Yer a swell gal Fran... So what? Too damned far to do anything about it except this and it seems to be no good so I might just as well forget about it , thanks to the klieg....'

"...here's to you and hope y'are making out fine.
Wick
P.S. It's better to have loved and lost- much better!"
